KEY SERVICE PROVIDER DYNAMICS

  • Before 2000, Fujitsu was best known for its mainframe computers, just behind IBM. In April 2002, when the services sector was the fastest growing major IT market, Fujitsu started to restructure and transform itself into an IT services, consulting, and software services provider to slowly shift away from the hardware-centric business where managing profits were becoming challenging.
  • In the late 1990s and before the Japanese downturn, Fujitsu acquired key service providers in the US and the UK in the consulting and application services space, which presented a good start for diversifying into the services business.
  • Fujitsu has been investing heavily on creating thought papers through surveys across various technology advancements for itself as well as to educate clients. It is also working toward bridging the cultural and capability shift to reduce and eliminate departmental silos.
